I agree with Sadie, I really enjoyed this book and I didn't criticize it. Why does everyone have to diss the book we read in class?

I also agree with Marisa- I am glad that Amir finally had the courage to grow up and find out that there are other people in the world that need his help.

You know... I really enjoyed this book. It never crossed my mind while I was reading it (either time) to criticize or seek out flaws. Rape is something that will haunt the rest of your life, not to mention the added horror of letting it happen to someone close to you. Amir let this fester and stew for so long, it doesn't seem so weird that we should be reminded of it so often. That's probably pretty realistic that Amir would think of it in the time frame of every other paragraph. Also keep in mind we aren't getting his day to day life, just an overview. Not to mention he is facing the son and raper of Hassan. That is going to get the memories going back in full swing.

This section was brutal. Like.. really harsh. That really got the most reaction out of me. I like Rahim Khan too. Always spouting wisdom. He will make my quote log easier.

Rachel: I was thinking the same thing about Amir laughing but I think it's kind of ironic because Assef did the same thing to that guy in jail. So now he understands what it's like. My thing is if I were him I would be crying because its got to hurt really bad.

Sam: I also was sad that Amir and Hasson didn't get to meet up again. I wanted Amir to admit everything and finally get it off his chest.

I want this book to end well but I'm thinking it's not going to by the way everyone is acting around me that has been reading it.

I really hope this book gets less depressing. By the look of Erika's face today in government it does not look like it is headed in a good direction. I hope it is one of those happily ever after stories. Haha. Yeah nevermind, that probably won't happen :(
I wish Hassan were still alive so that they could be reunited again.

nichole: it's not that we're callous. in the book speak, the entire book was about rape but the girl didn't talk about it allllllll the time. when an author makes it extremely repetitive, it loses the punch it once had. it's not that we are these inhumane people who aren't empathic of ppl who have gotten raped.

& matt...your last sentence was what i think a lot of us were thinking. like would we have the guts to do what he did?

my question is did amir just do it for selfish reasons, to make himself feel less guilty? or did he do it for sohrab or for hassan? i think it's a lot easier to say you're doing something for someone else & try to justify it, but if you really think about it, sometimes your intentions are different than what you're saying out loud.

I hope that Sohrab finds peace after everything that happened. This boy my heart goes out to. It makes me sad to think that their are thousands of children in Afghanistan who have gone through that at one time or another. It makes me sick to think why people like Assef do that to a child. While reading this book it took my back to Sociology when we were talking about sex offenders. I know some people who this has affected and I don't see why people in their right mind believe its right.
Assef is a sick person and I was extremely happy when Sohrab shot him with the slingshot. As Amir had what was coming to him. So did Assef for all his wrong doings. I just feel strongly about that subject.

O had a feeling Assef would come back into the picture but I was not expecting that!! I was so shocked when I read that part! Also, the part when nthe people got stoned, I felt terrible. What a horrific and embarrasing way to die. This section was the one that got the most emotional reaction out of me. I was angry and sad at the same time. Living here, I don't really realize how destructed and torn their country is and this describes it so well!

So I read ahead and I'm really trying not to spoil anything for anyone. When people said "I want Hassan to come back!" I tried really hard to say "He doesn't!" I was also mad when the Taliban shot him and his wife. And Hassan and Amir being brothers, my brain went "WHAAA?" like everyone else's.
