Pep Band Cancelled

Due to the inclement weather, there will be no pep band tonight, January 12th, 2012.

Taco Supper!

So what are you doing on Friday the 13th? That’s the date for the Band Boosters’ first fund raiser of 2012!

On Friday, January 13th during the basketball games, the Band Boosters will be sponsoring a Taco Dinner in the small gym near the auditorium beginning at 5:30 pm. By the way, all band students are scheduled to play in the pep band that evening.

We could use your help in the following ways:

1. If you have a junior or senior student in band, we are asking you to donate a case of pop for the event. If your student could bring the pop to the band room no later than Thursday, January 12th, Mr. Walker and the students can take inventory and get it iced down before the event for us. I’m suggesting Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and/ or Sierra Mist. By the way, Pepsi products are on sale right now at Hy-Vee!

2. If you have a freshman or sophomore student in band, we asking you to donate a 12-18 “servings” of a dessert. You can either have your student bring it to the band room Friday before or after school or to the gym no later than 5:00 pm.

3. We could use a few volunteers to help serve and clean up. Please respond to this e-mail if you can help anytime between 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm on Friday. January 13th.

4. Come eat some tacos!

Thank you to those that have helped with fund raisers earlier this school year. We earned about $750 from the concession sales at the Jr. High Speech Contest. I anticipate that the Boosters will earn about $750 from the fruit sales, and band students will earn another $750 collectively in their individual student accounts from that fruit sale. Mr. Walker is searching for a tenor sax to replace the one that died on us at a marching band contest this fall. Its purchase will be funded by the Band Boosters.

In March and April, we will be serving concessions at the IHSA high school music contests. We hope that you can help us with those events, too.

The concerts for the RJHS bands and choirs will be held this Thursday, Dec 8th. The 7th grade concert will be held at 6:30 in the auditorium and the 8th grade concert will be held at 7:30. Call time for the 8th grade band is 7:00. Band members are to wear black pants, black socks, black shoes, and a short sleeve white shirt. We will provide the maroon polos.

Winter Weather

December is always a very busy month for the music department, and seeing as it is December, there’s always a possibility of snow affecting the schedule. If there’s every a question as to whether or not something is cancelled, check this site.

All substitutions must be approved by Mr. Walker in advance. A reminder, Pep Band is part of your grade! That being said, show up and have a great time! You’re more than welcome to come to other games for the other band as well for extra credit. The more the merrier!

Select members of the band and choir will be participating the in the West Central Conference Band and Choir Festival on Tuesday, Nov 1st at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The concert will be combined with both groups and begin at 7:00pm.

Fruit Fundraiser Kick-Off

The RHS band has begun their annual Fruit Fundraiser. This sale is paramount in helping our band boosters purchase new items for the band. If you haven’t seen an order form yet, ask a band member or let Mr. Walker know what you’d like to buy.

Playoff Game

The RHS Marching Rockets will perform at the playoff game against Wilmington this Saturday, Oct 29th at 1:00pm. Call time will be noon. Attire for the event is HALLOWEEN COSTUMES!

Prarieland Band Itinerary

On Tuesday, the 8th Grade Band will be attending the Prarieland Band Festival at Mercer County. The schedule will go as follows:

11:00-Eat lunch with the 7th Grade
11:30-Prepare to leave
11:45-Load the bus
12:20-Arrive at Mercer County
12:25-Unpack and warm up
-There will be breaks throughout the rehearsal.
6:00-Dinner at the school
8:15-Arrive home

Fundraising Opprotunity.

Concessions at the Jr. High Speech Competition held at Rockridge Jr/Sr High

This is our first opportunity to raise money to help out the band. Some of our larger instruments need to be replaced (just ask Tony Garcia about the tenor saxaphone issues at the Metamora Contest!). To raise money for this, we’ve been offered the opportunity to sell concessions Friday evening, November 4th. This is the Friday that Rockridge Schools have parent-teacher conferences in the morning.

Shelley Weikert and Diane Mueller will take care of purchasing the concessions, but we’ll need volunteers to help that evening to set up and sell the concessions. We’ve planned two shifts–4:00-6:30 and 6:30-9:00. We expect students to begin arriving by 4:30.
