Call time for the students will be 6:00pm. We will be playing a variety of holiday and non holiday music as well as premiering an original work by Dr. Randall Faust, Professor of Horn at Western Illinois University. Dr. Faust will be traveling up to Rockridge to play the solo horn part with us as well!

6:15-Warm Up
7:00-Perform
8:45-(approx) arrive home

Thursday: 6:00-On the field, dressed and ready to go. So, you’re not arriving at 6:00, you’re ready to go at 6:00. We’ll run the show once for the parents and then march it with them. After that, we’ll have a regular night practice til’ 9:00.

Saturday: 12:15-Call (eat before you come, there won’t be a meal)
1:30-Game starts. As soon as we finish halftime, load the bus.
4:45-Arrive in Macomb
5:04-Report to Western Hall
5:19-Warm up
5:49-Leave for Stadium
6:04-Arrive at Stadium
6:19-Perform
7:35-Awards
9:00-Arrive home and unload.

The May Concert Band concert will be held on Thursday, May 21st at 7:00 pm.  This is our concert we do every year with the sixth grade band. 

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Jazz Band/Show Choir show had to be moved.  It will now happen on Tuesday, May 26th and Wednesday, May 27th.  I’m sorry for the change, but this one is out of our hands.

]]> http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/2009/04/17/spring-band-events/feed/ IHSA Organization Contest http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/2009/02/13/ihsa-organization-contest/ http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/2009/02/13/ihsa-organization-contest/#comments Fri, 13 Feb 2009 21:01:42 +0000 jwalker http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/?p=34 We’ve got a big event coming up April 3rd and 4th.  Rockridge is hosting IHSA Organization Contest this year.  This is the event where area schools bring their bands, choirs, and orchestras to be critiqued by a panel of judges.  We will have a lot of people coming through the school for this event.  There will be a booster meeting the first Wednesday of March at 6:30 to discuss concessions and general management of the day.  This is an all hands on deck event!  All students are required to work a shift and we could use as much parent help as we can get.  You can email me, Mr. O, or simply attend the booster meeting to find out  how you can help.

]]> http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/2009/02/13/ihsa-organization-contest/feed/ Congrats to RHS All Staters! http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/2009/02/13/congrats-to-rhs-all-staters/ http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/2009/02/13/congrats-to-rhs-all-staters/#comments Fri, 13 Feb 2009 20:49:44 +0000 jwalker http://rockridgeschools.org/wpsites/jwalker/?p=33 The 2008-2009 school year has been a big on for the RHS Music Dept.  One of the many areas of note is our large number of students selected for All State this year.  In the band performance area; Dana Jones was selected to play in the All State Band on bassoon and Kyle Martin was selected to play guitar in the All State Jazz Band (the first in RHS history as far as we’re aware).  Rachael Kline wrote an essay for the Future Music Educators Semenar and was chosen to go to Peoria to get a crash course in what it’s like to be a music educator.  Another first for our department, Mike Sederquist composed a piece for concert band and submitted it to the All State Student Composition contest.  His piece placed 3rd in the large ensemble division.  Mike’s piece was also performed on our Winter Concert.  While this is a band site, I would certainly be remiss if I didn’t mention our choral All Staters.  Mason Elliott was chosen to sing in the All State Choir and Kelsey Swan was selected to sing in the All State Honors Choir.
