We’ve got a big event coming up April 3rd and 4th. Rockridge is hosting IHSA Organization Contest this year. This is the event where area schools bring their bands, choirs, and orchestras to be critiqued by a panel of judges. We will have a lot of people coming through the school for this event. There will be a booster meeting the first Wednesday of March at 6:30 to discuss concessions and general management of the day. This is an all hands on deck event! All students are required to work a shift and we could use as much parent help as we can get. You can email me, Mr. O, or simply attend the booster meeting to find out how you can help.

The 2008-2009 school year has been a big on for the RHS Music Dept. One of the many areas of note is our large number of students selected for All State this year. In the band performance area; Dana Jones was selected to play in the All State Band on bassoon and Kyle Martin was selected to play guitar in the All State Jazz Band (the first in RHS history as far as we’re aware). Rachael Kline wrote an essay for the Future Music Educators Semenar and was chosen to go to Peoria to get a crash course in what it’s like to be a music educator. Another first for our department, Mike Sederquist composed a piece for concert band and submitted it to the All State Student Composition contest. His piece placed 3rd in the large ensemble division. Mike’s piece was also performed on our Winter Concert. While this is a band site, I would certainly be remiss if I didn’t mention our choral All Staters. Mason Elliott was chosen to sing in the All State Choir and Kelsey Swan was selected to sing in the All State Honors Choir.

Due to the early out today, the Junior High Band and Choir concerts tonight have been rescheduled for noon on Friday, Dec 19th.
The High School Band Concert is still on for Wednesday night!
In the event that that goes awry, our plan B for the high school concert is Thursday night. If they both go awry, plan C is Friday night. If all else fails, we’ll have it after break. As of now, things look okay for Wednesday.
Please keep checking this site, as I will update it as soon as any information comes my way.

Due to last nights pep band being cancelled, I’m adding a night. It will be Thursday, Dec 18th. It will be neither an A or a B game, but an extra credit game.

While not specifically band related, the Madrigal choir performance at The Lodge this evening has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
In related news, school will be dismissed today at 1:15 for the same reason.
And if you haven’t picked up your fruit yet, well, you may not want to do it today since we’re out early, but tomorrow would be great!

Due to the fact that many things in band occur outside of the normal school day, weather often interferes when it may not have interfered during school. If you have any question on whether or not something is cancelled, be it pep band or jazz band practice, this is where it will be posted.

The dates for the 2008-2009 Pep Band season are as follows:
Pep Band A: 12/01, 12/08, 1/12, 1/27, 2/10
Pep Band B: 12/02, 1/08, 1/20, 2/5, 2/13
Hey, the font changed for some reason.
Pep Band is a part of the students grades, so attendance is important. If someone is unable make a perfomance, switching with another member is allowed, I just need to know about it and approve it in advance.
